Marine Mammal Commission

Letters

To fulfill its oversight role, the Marine Mammal Commission writes letters to federal agencies and various action proponents with specific recommendations aimed at conserving marine mammals and their environment. For example, we comment on proposed regulations, incidental take authorizations, environmental assessments and environmental impact statements, and permits to take marine mammals. We also identify areas where we believe agencies should take additional steps to protect marine mammals and their environment.

Commission letters are organized by calendar year. Browse the list below for all letters sent since 2003 and associated agency responses.

Many of our letters also reference specific marine mammal species or topics (e.g., renewable energy development, international issues, the Arctic). Please visit our species of concern and priority topics pages for Commission letters related to those topics. For assistance locating a specific Commission letter, please contact mmc@mmc.gov.
